While not a full SCADPro class, SCADPro did host a design sprint over the span of a weekend for a client who needed help.
The client wanted to create a series of plushies and companion books which explored different cultures through textiles. I was brought on as a character designer, and got to work immediately by creating animal characters which emphasized the culture and fabrics of their environments!
My initial designs were based on fashion doll proportions, as that way the costumes could be as accurate as possible. However, the client wanted shorter, cuter dolls, so my next ideations made sure to match that. The client also requested simple accessories or statement pieces, rather than full outfits.
The characters I created for this project include a Samoan octopus, a Native American fruit bat, an African Scarab Beetle, and a Nordic Sheep. The main character, an American Astronaut dog, was based on the client's brief. While only a few of my designs made it into the final presentation, the clients were happy with them, and considering how quickly they were created, so am I!
